Set up a backup method for 2-factor authentication (2FA)
Description

Once you’ve set up your primary 2FA method and noted your recovery key, we recommend you add a backup method.

This is an alternative email address or phone number you can use to reset your 2FA, or access a recovery key to log in.

Cause
Resolution
  1. Log in to account.sso.sage.com.
  2. Select Set up backup method.
  3. If prompted, enter your 6-digit authentication code then select Continue.
TIP: If you can't authenticate, use your recovery key.
  4. You now have two options for a backup method. Bear in mind, you can't set your backup method as the same number or email as your primary method:
    • Phone number (text or call) - set a phone number to use for either texts or calls as your backup method
    • Email address - enter an email address to use as your backup method

      NOTE:

If you don't have an alternative email address, consider creating one with a free provider like Google (Gmail) or Microsoft Outlook.

  5. Decide which backup method you want to use, then continue to the next section.

Select the relevant option below for help with setting up:

▼ Set up a backup phone number
  1. Select Phone number.
  2. Select how to receive the code, as either a Text message or a Phone call.
  3. Select the appropriate country prefix.
  4. Enter your phone number.

    NOTE:

If you don't have another phone number, and already authenticate with your phone, select Use an email address instead.

  5. If you selected Text, you'll receive a text (SMS) with a code. If you selected Phone call, you receive an automated call with a 6-digit code.
  6. Enter the code to continue.

You've successfully set up your backup method. You can now use this backup method when you're unable to authenticate using your primary 2FA method or recovery key.

▼ Set up a backup email address
  1. Select Email address.
  2. Enter the email address to use as your backup method and select Continue.

    NOTE:

You can't use the same email address that you use to log into your Sage Account. If you don't have an alternative email address, you can create one with a free provider like Google (Gmail) or Microsoft Outlook.

  3. You'll receive an email to the new email address with a 6-digit code.
  4. Enter the code from the email.

You've successfully set up your recovery method. You can now use this backup method when you're unable to authenticate using your primary 2FA method or recovery key.
