Using a recovery code for 2-factor authentication (2FA)
Description

During setting up 2FA, you're given a 24-digit recovery code to note down and keep safe.

The code is 24 digits, containing a mix of letters and numbers, for example:

VNDS - 79KB - 7JAJ - QNKA - F5F7 - YUPX

This is for you to use when you're unable to authenticate using your primary 2FA method (authenticator app, text, or call). After you use it, you're given a new recovery code to use next time when required.

Can't use your recovery code?

If you're unable to use your recovery code, for example, you've lost it, or it's invalid, you can use your recovery method.

Click Verify a different way instead, then click Use your recovery method.

This will allow you to use your alternative recovery email address or phone number to either generate a new recovery code or reset your 2FA. For detailed steps, visit our article, Using your recovery method for 2FA.
