Using a recovery method for 2-factor authentication (2FA)
Description

Once you’ve set up your recovery method you can use this alternative email address or phone number to reset your 2FA if needed or get a recovery code to log in.

  1. When prompted to enter a 6-digit code when logging in, click Verify a different way instead.
  2. Under Cannot verify it's you?, click Use your recovery method.

  3. Enter the 6-digit code sent to your recovery method, for example to your recovery email address. 

     NOTE: If you don't have access to your recovery email address/phone number, or it tells you that you don't have a recovery method, Contact Sage technical support. Once they confirm you don't have a working recovery method, they can look into either generating you a new recovery code, or resetting your 2FA. 

 

After you've verified your identity you must either select whether to generate a new recovery code or to remove the device to set 2FA up again on a new device.

The option you choose will depend on whether you permanently or temporarily don't have access to your primary 2FA method. For example, whether you've forgotten to take your phone to work compared losing your phone.

 

Generate new recovery code

Use this option if you only temporarily don't have access to your 2FA device. 

  1. Click Generate recovery code.
  2. Copy and make a note of the recovery code. 
  3. Log in to your Sage product or service using this recovery code. 

 

Remove device and add new one

Use this option if you no longer have access to your 2FA device and need to set up 2FA again.

  1. Click Remove device and add new one.
  2. Click Send 2-factor authentication email. This will send an email to allow you to set up 2FA again. This could be for the same device or a new one.



  3. Follow the steps in the email to set up 2FA again. For detailed steps, visit our article, Set up 2-factor authentication (2FA).

 TIP: If you previously set up 2FA for an authenticator app, remember to delete Sage from your authenticator app before trying to set it up again on the app.
