How to change your 2-factor authentication device

Created on  | Last modified on

Summary

How to change your device or primary method for 2-factor authentication (2FA) to access your Sage account.

Description

When you set up 2FA for your Sage account, you can only register to use one 2FA device or method. For example, using an authenticator app on your mobile phone.

Some examples of when you need to change the device or authentication method are when you:

  • Decide to move to the Sage Verify app as your authentication method
  • Have a new phone that you want to use for 2FA
  • Want to change to using an authenticator app instead of SMS text
  • Have a new phone number to use for 2FA

NOTE:

Changing your 2FA device isn't the solution for multiple users sharing access to the same Sage account. Each person needs their own login and 2FA. Find out more in the 2FA for Multi-user Sage accounts article.

Resolution

Removing your 2FA device doesn't disable 2FA, and it remains mandatory.

The steps you need to follow depend on whether you have access to your existing 2FA device or method.

Select the relevant option below to find out what to do:

▼ I don't have access to my 2FA device or method

Use a recovery option to reset 2FA.

  1. Go to the login screen for your Sage product or service.
  2. Enter your Sage account email address and password.
  3. Select Verify a different way instead.
  4. If you:
    • Have your recovery key, select this option and enter it then skip ahead to Step 7
    • Don't have your recovery key select Use your backup method
  5. The system sends a code to the email address or phone number you set as your recovery method when you set up 2FA.
  6. Enter the code you received.
  7. Select Remove device and add a new one.

Set up 2FA

You've reset your 2FA method, and can now set up your new 2FA method.
