How to register with HMRC and enter your details in Sage Payroll.

Description

Before submitting any information to HMRC, you must register for a Government Gateway account. You then enrol for Pay as You Earn (PAYE) for Employers service.

Check if any existing account is still active. If you’re not registered, or your status is inactive, HMRC will reject your submissions from Sage Payroll.

In Sage Payroll, you must then enter your:

  • PAYE reference
  • Accounts office
  • Gateway User ID
  • Gateway Password

You can the submit the following forms:

▼Check your account with HMRC
  1. Visit HMRC at gateway.gov.
  2. Enter your User ID and Password, then select Log in.
  3. Select Manage Services. Make sure you’re registered for the PAYE for Employers service.
  4. Check your tax office number and reference are correct and your status is active.

You an enter these in two areas of the program. 

▼Settings
  1. Select Settings from the menu bar and choose Payroll settings.
  2. Enter the User Id and Password.
  3. Select Store Password for future submissions.
  4. Select Save.
▼When processing your pay run
  1. Process your pay run until the final CONFIRM screen.
  2. Select Complete Pay Run.
  3. Payroll asks for your Government Payroll Credentials. Enter the User Id and Password.
  4. Select Store Password for future submissions.
  5. Select Submit

 NOTE: For security reasons, you can't view the saved details of your User ID and Password from within Sage Payroll. Use HMRC Online Services at gov.uk if you need to recover your account.  

Ensure that the company details match in both your HMRC and Payroll services. This will help to avoid any Submission errors.
