Opening Sage Accounts shows 'Queue.dta is in use'
Description

When you open Sage Accounts, it may hang on or close on the splash window. You may also receive the following message:

'Queue.dta is in use
Please wait until this file is available'

This can happen if the Sage Data Service doesn't have full access to your data files, or if your data is stored on a path in any of the following locations:

  • C:\
  • C:\Windows
  • C:\Program Files
  • C:\Program Files (x86)
  • C:\Dev
Cause
Resolution
Delete the Queue.dta file

To resolve this issue, you'll need to delete the Queue.dta file.  If the issue persists, follow the next steps.

Ensure your data is not located in a blocked folder

TIP: Before you start these steps, check that the Company.000 folder in C:\ProgramData\Sage\Accounts\20xx\ contains an Accdata folder.

If you're running Sage Accounts over a network, you must perform the following steps on the computer that holds your data.

  1. Press the Windows key + E then browse to C:\ProgramData\Sage\Accounts\xxxx, where xxxx is your software version, for example, 2022 or 2023.
  2. Double-click the company file then open with Notepad.
  3. Check if the company data paths listed begin with any of the following:
    • C:\
    • C:\Windows
    • C:\Program Files
    • C:\Program Files (x86)
    • C:\Dev
  4. If any of your data is located within these folders, you must move it to a folder outside of these areas, for example, C:\ProgramData.

If after moving your data you still get a 'Waiting to open queue.dta' message, follow the steps in this guide.

If the issue still occurs, or if your software hangs or closes on the splash window, refer to the following section.

Check the user's Windows permissions on your Company.xxx folder

CAUTION: If you're unsure how to check and amend permissions on Windows, we recommend that you speak to your IT support.

  1. Press the Windows key + E then browse to C:\ProgramData\Sage\Accounts\xxxx, where xxxx is your software version, for example, 2023.
  2. Double-click the company file then open with Notepad.
  3. Note each directory path, click File then click Exit.
  4. Browse to the first directory path then right-click the folder. For example, if the directory path is C:\ProgramData\Sage\Accounts\2023\COMPANY.001, browse to and right-click COMPANY.001.
  5. Click Properties, click the Security tab, click Advanced, click Disable inheritances then click Remove all inherited permissions for this object.
  6. Click Add, click Select a principal then click Object Types.
  7. Select the Computers check box, select the Service Accounts or Services check box then click OK.
    • If the Computers, Service Accounts or Services check boxes don't show, continue to next step.
