CAUTION: Before making any changes, take a full backup of your data. If you're unsure, contact your local IT support or Sage. Check the path with Sage 50 Accounts open - Open Sage 50 Accounts.
- Click Help then About and note the Data Directory in the Program Details section.
Check the path in Windows - Press the Windows key + E to open File Explorer.
- Browse to the following relevant folder:
TIP: To show the ProgramData folder, you might need to show hidden files and folders. | Sage 50 Accounts v32 | C:\ProgramData\Sage\Accounts\2026 | | Sage 50 Accounts v31 | C:\ProgramData\Sage\Accounts\2025 | | Sage 50 Accounts v30 | C:\ProgramData\Sage\Accounts\2024 | | Sage 50 Accounts v29 | C:\ProgramData\Sage\Accounts\2023 | | Sage 50 Accounts v28 | C:\ProgramData\Sage\Accounts\2022 | | Sage 50 Accounts v27 | C:\ProgramData\Sage\Accounts\2021 | | Sage 50 Accounts v26 | C:\ProgramData\Sage\Accounts\2020 | - Double-click the company file and choose to open with Notepad, then click OK.
A notepad window opens, showing the path to your accounts data. If you've more than one company, the paths show on separate lines.

CAUTION: Stop the Sage 50 Accounts Data and Control Service before renaming and creating any files.
