Where is my data kept?
Description

Sometimes it may be necessary to find where your Sage 50 Accounts data is kept. For example, to move data to a new location, or to carry out maintenance on your data. Let's take a look.

CAUTION: Before making any changes, please ensure you take a full backup of your data. If you're unsure, please contact your local IT support or Sage.

How to check - I can open Sage 50 Accounts

  1. Open Sage 50 Accounts.
  2. Check the Data path for the relevant company in the company selection window:


How to check - I can't open Sage Accounts

  1. In Windows, browse to the following relevant folder:
     TIP: To show the ProgramData folder you may need to show hidden files and folders.

    Sage 50 Accounts v28 C:\ProgramData\Sage\Accounts\2022
    Sage 50 Accounts v27 C:\ProgramData\Sage\Accounts\2021
    Sage 50  Accounts v26 C:\ProgramData\Sage\Accounts\2020
    Sage 50 Accounts v25 C:\ProgramData\Sage\Accounts\2019
    Sage 50 Accounts v24 C:\ProgramData\Sage\Accounts\2018
    Sage 50 Accounts v23 C:\ProgramData\Sage\Accounts\2017
    Sage 50 Accounts v22 C:\ProgramData\Sage\Accounts\2016
    Sage 50 Accounts v21 C:\ProgramData\Sage\Accounts\2015
  2. Double-click the COMPANY file and choose to open it using Notepad, then click OK.
  3. A notepad window opens, showing the path to your accounts data. If you have more than one company, all the paths show on separate lines.



CAUTION: You must stop the Sage 50 Accounts Data Service before renaming and creating any files.
