Before you start

Move your data to a new location

  1. Create a new folder on the computer you'll move the data to, and share the folder
  2. If the software isn't on the computer where your data is, install the Data Service on that computer.
  3. Find your existing Sage Accounts data directory, then browse to and copy the Company folder that contains the ACCDATA folder, for example Company.000.
  4. Paste the folder into the new folder you created in step 1.
  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for any additional company you want to move.

You've now copied your data to the new location. Your next step is to amend the Sage 50 Accounts data path.

Amend the data path

  1. On the computer where you access Sage 50 Accounts, press the Windows key + E.
  2. Browse to the file called COMPANY in the relevant folder path below:
    Version Company file location
    v31 C:\ProgramData\Sage\Accounts\2025
    v30 C:\ProgramData\Sage\Accounts\2024
    v29 C:\ProgramData\Sage\Accounts\2023
    v28 C:\ProgramData\Sage\Accounts\2022
    v27 C:\ProgramData\Sage\Accounts\2021
    v26 C:\ProgramData\Sage\Accounts\2020
  3. Right-click the COMPANY file then click Open with then choose Notepad.
TIP: In Windows 10 and 11, you might need to click More Apps first to see the Notepad option.
  4. Change the COMPANY file's paths to the new data location. Enter the relevant UNC path for this.

Click File, choose Save then click File then Exit.
  5. Repeat steps 1 to 4 on each computer that accesses Sage 50 Accounts.
