How to resolve this message, which can appear when taking a backup in Sage 50 Accounts.

Description

This message can appear for a few different reasons. Let's run through what to do to resolve it

NOTE: If your error message says 'The Backup has been unsuccessful. Backup job terminated unexpectedly.', this isn't the same error. You must follow the steps in our 'The Backup has been unsuccessful. Backup job terminated unexpectedly.' guide.

Resolution

Ensure you are on the latest build of Sage 50 Accounts

To check if you're using the latest build of the software, please visit sage.co.uk/au

If the issue persists, follow the steps below.

Firewall settings

This message can sometimes appear on large datasets, when the backup is creating snapshot of data.

To resolve this issue, your computer must meet the firewall requirements for Sage 50 Accounts

Fix any errors

Turn off the new backup method, then run Check data and fix any reported errors. While this feature is off, scheduled backups and concurrent backups don't work.

Switch off concurrent back ups

CAUTION: Don't use these steps as a permanent solution.

  1. Click Settings, then click Company Preferences and click Parameters.
  2. Clear the Enable Check Data and Backup with users logged in check box.
  3. Click OK.
  4. Clear the temporary folder on the computer you've done the above steps on.

NOTE: If the message 'Check data job terminated unexpectedly' no longer appears with concurrent back ups switched off, this means there's either a permissions issue for the temp folder on your computer, or the temp folder is full/has a limit on how much space it can take up. To avoid switching off concurrent back ups, contact your IT support to check for size limitations on your temp folders. Check Windows permissions on the temp folders too.

Check your data

Click File, click Maintenance then click Check Data.

Check the computer that holds your data

On the computer that holds your data, check you can write files to the temporary folder. If you're not sure how to check this, please contact your IT support.

TIP: Use our Where is my data kept? guide to find the computer that holds your data.

Using Mapped drives?

If you connect to your data though a mapped network drive, changing to a UNC path can resolve the issue. For more information, see: Connecting to your Sage Accounts data using a UNC path.
