Using Windows Service Manager
Follow these steps on the computer or server that holds your Sage 50 Accounts data.
▼ Stop the Sage 50 Accounts Services - Select the Windows Key + R buttons, enter Services.msc, then select Enter.
- Right-click the relevant service and click Stop.

- Sage Accounts v28 - Sage 50 Accounts Service v28

- Right-click the relevant control service and click Stop.

- Sage Accounts v28 - Sage 50 Accounts Control v28

▼ Start the Sage 50 Accounts Services
- Select the Windows Key + R buttons, enter Services.msc, then select Enter.
- Right-click the relevant service and click Start.

- Right-click the relevant control service and click Start.

- Sage Accounts v29 - Sage 50 Accounts Control v29
- Sage Accounts v28 - Sage 50 Accounts Control v28
- Sage Accounts v27 - Sage 50 Accounts Control v27
- Sage Accounts v26 - Sage 50 Accounts Control v26
NOTE: If you're having difficulty starting the service, this could be due to environmental issues. To help resolve this, contact your local IT support.
The service is stuck starting or stopping
CAUTION: These steps are a last resort. If the service is in use, it can cause data corruption. The safest way to restart the services is to reboot your computer, or the computer that holds your data.
Follow the steps below to force the service to stop and try again if the state shows starting or stopping. Alternatively, you can restart the machine mentioned in the error message. For any help to restart your server, speak to your IT administrator.
▼ Stopping the service using Taskkill You can stop the service with the Taskkill command in the command prompt. However, if the service is in use, this can cause corruption. Use this as a last resort, and make sure you check your data once you're back in Sage 50 Accounts.
- Select the Windows Key, then type cmd, and right-click the Command Prompt app.
- Choose Run as administrator.
- Enter the following, depending on your version:
Sage Accounts v29 and above | Taskkill /f /IM sg50svc.exe |
Sage Accounts v28 | Taskkill /f /IM sg50svc_v28.exe |
Sage Accounts v27 | Taskkill /f /IM sg50svc_v27.exe |
Sage Accounts v26 | Taskkill /f /IM sg50svc_v26.exe |
Use the following command prompts to stop the Control Service.
Sage Accounts v31 | Taskkill /F /IM sg50CtrlSvc_v31.exe /T |
Sage Accounts v30 | Taskkill /F /IM sg50CtrlSvc_v30.exe /T |
Sage Accounts v29 | Taskkill /F /IM sg50CtrlSvc_v29.exe /T |
Sage Accounts v28 | Taskkill /F /IM sg50CtrlSvc_v28.exe /T |
Sage Accounts v27 | Taskkill /F /IM sg50CtrlSvc_v27.exe /T |
Sage Accounts v26 | Taskkill /F /IM sg50CtrlSvc_v26.exe /T |
- Select Enter.
