1. In Sage Accounts, on the menu bar, click Help then click About.
2. In the Program Details section, check the Version number.

If you're unable to open Sage Accounts you can check your version in Windows:

1. Press the Windows key + R.
2. Enter appwiz.cpl then press Enter.
3. Look for the latest version of Sage Accounts in the list.
4. In the Version column check the main version, for example, 25 or 26.

Install the Data Service on your server

Sage 50 Accounts uses the Sage Accounts Data Service to control the flow of data. You must install this on the server.

TIP: If you don't have access to the server, you should contact your local IT Support.

1. On the server computer, right-click the following download link:

2. Click Save link as or Save target as, note the file name, browse to where you want to save it, then click Save.
3. Locate and double-click the downloaded file, if an Open File - Security Warning window appears, click Run.
4. Follow the on-screen prompts then when the install completes, click Close.

Create and share a folder on your server

On your server create a folder to store your data and share the folder, giving other network users full control.

For example, create the following folders and share the SageData folder in the path below:

• C:\SageData\Company.000

Create your company data

Having installed the software on your client computer, you need to create your company data.

1. On the client computer, open Sage Accounts.
2. In the ActiveSetup wizard click Create a new company, then click Change.
3. Browse to or type the path to your Company.000 folder then click OK.
4. Click Next then enter your software serial number, activation key and account number.

You can find these on your order confirmation email.

2. To create your new company, follow the on-screen prompts.

Set up your data on the server

1. On your server, open Sage 50 Accounts.
2. In the ActiveSetup wizard select Set-up a new company, then click Next.
3. Enter your software serial number, activation key and account number.

You can find these on your order confirmation email.

1. Click Next, click OK and if a confirmation message appears click OK.
2. Ensure the Share this folder for all users check box is selected.
3. Make a note of the shared network path.
4. Click Next then follow the on-screen prompts.

Connect client computers to your company

1. On the client computer, open Sage Accounts.
2. In the ActiveSetup wizard select Use an existing company stored on your network, then click Browse.
3. Browse or type the path to your data as follows then click OK.

1. Click Next then click Next.
2. Click OK then click OK.
3. To connect to the data, click Connect.
4. Repeat steps 1 to 6 for each client computer.

Register your software

When you open your software for the first time, the Active Setup wizard takes you through entering your activation details and setting up your company data.

You can find your activation details, which include your serial number, activation key and account reference, in your order confirmation email.

Install the Data Service on your server

Sage 50 Accounts uses the Sage Accounts Data Service to control the flow of data. You must install this on the server.

Once installed, open each company in Sage 50 Accounts v27 to convert your data.

 NOTE: In Sage 50 Accounts v27 and above the number of permitted password characters has increased from 10 to 32. In earlier versions, only the first 10 characters of your password were read by the software. When entering your password in version 27 after upgrading, please ensure you only enter the first 10 characters. 

Update all remote computers

On all Sage Drive remote computers, follow the same steps above to download and install your software.

Update your Sage 50 Accounts licence

To activate your Sage 50 features, such as Microsoft Office 365 integration and VAT for Making Tax Digital (MTD), you need to update your licence on each computer.

1. Open Sage 50 Accounts, click Tools then click Activation.
2. If available, click Refresh Licence then proceed to step 5.
3. If no Refresh Licence option appears, click Upgrade program.
4. Enter your Serial Number, Activation Key and Account Reference, then click OK. You may need to click the Enter a new licence check box to show these options.
   
   If you've recently upgraded your Sage 50 Accounts licence, you can find this information in your order confirmation email.
5. When the Licence Confirmation window appears, click OK, then if prompted to close Sage 50 Accounts, click OK.
