ERROR: You have entered an invalid password
Description

When you open the software, the message 'You have entered an invalid password' appears.

There are a few potential causes of this message.

Resolution

Only enter the first 10 characters of your password

If you've upgraded from an older version, only enter the first 10 characters. 


Windows Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) encryption is enabled

Use our Windows FIPS encryption is enabled guide if you've recently changed your windows encryption settings. 


If you've downgraded from Sage 50 Accounts v28.1.404.0 to 28.0.226.0

We’ve resolved this issue in the latest version. Use our guide to upgrade.

If you can't upgrade:

  1. Click to download RemoveCipher.28.1.404.reg.
  2. Browse to the file in File Explorer.
  3. Double-click RemoveCipher.28.1.404.
  4. Click Run, then Yes.
  5. Select OK and try logging in.

Change the Manager password

To change the Manager password, on the Logon window click Forgotten password and answer your security question.

NOTE:

If you don't know the answer to your security question, the main billing contact can contact our support team to decode the password.


Try other passwords

  1. Try other potential passwords.
  2. If you're not logging in as Manager, ask the Manager user to change your password

Follow the steps in our guide to reset the Sage password encryption.


Restore an earlier backup

Your setup.dta file could be corrupt. To resolve this, restore a backup of your data before the issue occurred, and reprocess anything if required.
