Notice 23-KN | 10 Nov 2023

Sage 200 and Sage 50 – Essential information

We are writing to inform you that on 1st November 2023, HMRC performed a security update to their service which means it no longer supports the connection from products using Internet Explorer on Windows 7, 8, and 8.1.

Information around the retirement of Internet Explorer and its wider impacts based on 3rd party retirements has been shared in previous communications.

What does this mean?

Customers using specific Sage 50 or Sage 200 versions and using one of the Windows operating systems mentioned above, will no longer have the capability to submit VAT through their software in the future.

What are the affected software versions:

  • Sage 50 – Version 28.0 or below
  • Sage 200 – Spring 2018 up to and including 2021 R1 (Professional variant, only)

What do I need to do?

  • Sage 50 customers on plan are entitled to all software updates as part of their subscription, they simply need to update.

Customers can update their software by following our quick guide to downloading and installing the latest version of Sage 50 Accounts, which can be accessed here.

  • Sage 200 Professional customers on versions Spring 2018 up to and including 2021 R1 using one of the operating systems above can opt to use our Sage MTD for VAT standalone module, this needs to be requested by their partner. Further details on how to request this and the download are available in our article.

Whilst the module provides a mechanism for the VAT submission to take place, this is not a guarantee of no further interruptions when using unsupported operating systems and/or components. Regular upgrades are essential to stay ahead in the ever-evolving digital landscape to ensure optimal compatibility among interconnected components.

We’ve documented this all in a knowledgebase article which can be shared with customers.
