How to resolve the error message “This page can’t be displayed” when submitting your VAT return in Sage 200 Professional 2021 R1 and below.

Description

Following recent changes to the Government Gateway by HMRC on the Nov 1st some Sage 200 Professional customers may encounter the below error when attempting to log in and submit a VAT return to the HMRC.

Cause

HMRC made a change to their service which means it no longer supports connection from products using Internet Explorer on the following Windows Operating Systems:

  • Windows  7
  • Windows 8 
  • Windows 8.1 
  • Windows Server 2008 R2
  • Windows Server 2012 
  • Windows Server2012 R2.

Our investigation has concluded that Sage 200 Professional Spring 2018 and up to and including Sage 200 Professional 2021 R1 are affected by these changes.

Customers using Sage 200 Professional Winter 2017 or below should already be submitting via the MTD module and will not be affected .

 NOTE: Sage 200 Standard and Sage for Education are not affected by this issue. 

Resolution

There are three ways to resolve this issue.

  1. Use a supported version of Microsoft Windows (Windows 10 / Windows Server 2016 or above).
  2. Upgrade Sage 200 to version 2022 R1 or above.
  3. Use the Sage MTD for VAT Module, we would only recommend this as a temporary workaround.

 TIP: Partner Services ([email protected]) can issue a MTD Submissions module as a temporary workaround if it is required.

We always recommend using a supported version of Microsoft Windows operating systems and applying the latest patches.

 CAUTION: Customers using Windows 10 will be impacted if they are running Windows 10 build 1511 and have not applied the following security patch: KB3176492 Cumulative Update for Windows 10:August 9,2016.

 NOTE: This is an old version of Windows 10 first introduced in 2015.
