Where is my data kept?

Summary

How to check where your Sage 50 Accounts data's held.

Description

You may need to locate your Sage 50 Accounts data. For example, to move your data to a new location, or perform maintenance on your data.  

Resolution

CAUTION: Before making any changes, take a full backup of your data. If you're unsure, contact your local IT support or Sage.

Check the path with Sage 50 Accounts open

  1. Open Sage 50 Accounts.
  2. Click Help then About and note the Data Directory in the Program Details section.

  1. Open Sage 50 Accounts.
  2. Check the Data path for the relevant company in the company selection window:

Check PC name

  1. Open Start → click Settings.
  2. Go to System.
  3. Click About.
  4. Select Device name.

Check the path in Windows

  1. Press the Windows key + E to open File Explorer.
  2. Browse to the following relevant folder:
     TIP: To show the ProgramData folder, you might need to show hidden files and folders. 
Sage Accounts v33 or above C:\ProgramData\Sage\Accounts\Vxx.  Where xx is the year of your software. For example, V33.
Sage Accounts v32 or below

C:\ProgramData\Sage\Accounts\20xx. Where xx is the year of your software. For example, v32 is 2025.

 

  1. Double-click the company file and choose to open with Notepad, then click OK.

A notepad window opens, showing the path to your accounts data. If you've more than one company, the paths show on separate lines.

CAUTION: Stop the Sage 50 Accounts Data and Control Service before renaming and creating any files.
