Download, install and set up Sage 50 P11D v29
Description

The latest software update is now available, which you can use to calculate benefits for the 2023/2024 tax year.

Prepare to install the update, then follow the steps below to install and transfer any existing P11D data over.

Check your version number

Log in to your P11D software and click Help, then About. If your version number:

  • Begins with 28, continue to the steps below to download and install v29.
  • Is 29.00.071 your software is already up to date and you don't need to install an update

Download and install v29

The steps below take you through how to install your update. This includes how to set whether your v29 data is created on your computer or elsewhere, for example on a server.

  1. Close Sage 50 P11D and any other Sage software you have open on your computer.
  2. Click the link below:
  3. The update downloads to the Downloads folder on your computer automatically.
     NOTE: If you're prompted to select where to save this file, select the Downloads folder then click Save.
  4. On your keyboard, press the Windows key and R.
  5. Type Downloads then click OK.
  6. Right-click Sage50P11D_29071.exe and click Run as Administrator.
  7. To confirm you agree to the licence agreement and proceed, click Accept Licence.
  8. The installer sets the installation path on your computer for v29 automatically, click Next.
  9. You need to set the location of your P11D company data for v29 now:
    • If you store your data on your computer, click Next without making any changes
    • If you use a server, create a new folder for your v29 data on the server then click Browse and browse to it, then click Next
  10. Click Next to begin the installation.

When your installation progress appears to be near completion, please allow time for the installation to complete.

When the installation is complete you must save any work you have open, and restart your computer.

You've now installed v29 and are ready to move on to the next section, to prepare your activation details.

Activation details

When you first open your new version of Sage 50 P11D, you must enter your serial number and activation key to activate it.

If you don't have these to hand, you can find them with our find my serial number and activation key tool. 

 NOTE: Alternatively, log in to v28, click File then Upgrade Program and note the Serial Number and Current Key.

Keep these details to hand, ready for the steps below.

Transfer your data

Your next step is to move your P11D data from v28, to v29. If you don't have any existing data to transfer, visit our create a new P11D database guide to get started.

As an alternative to the steps below, if you have an up-to-date backup of your v28 data you can use this to set your data up in v29. To do this, follow our guide to create a new P11D database in v29, then restore your v28 backup in v29. How to back up and restore your data >

Note your v28 data location

Take note of the path to your data in last years' software. You need to enter this path in the v29 data transfer wizard.

  1. Log in to Sage 50 P11D v28 as normal.
  2. Click File then Change Database Location.
  3. Note the path here, excluding 'P11D.MDB'.
     TIP: For example, if the path is c:\programdata\sage\sage 50 p11d\28.1\001\p11ddata\P11D.MDB, note c:\programdata\sage\sage 50 p11d\28.1\001\p11ddata\
  4. Click Cancel to close this window.

Data transfer wizard

Follow the steps below to transfer the data for your company/companies into v29. If you processed 2023/24 benefits in v28, these are transferred automatically during this process.

  1. Open Sage 50 P11D v29.
  2. Enter your serial number and activation key and click Next.
  3. Select Upgrade Existing data, then click Next.
  4. Click Browse, and browse to the path you noted in the Note your v28 data location section.
  5. Double click P11D.MDB.
  6. Click Next, then Finish.
  7. The Upgrade Data wizard opens, to start the upgrade click Next.
  8. If you'd like to, you can click View the Upgrade log and Print this for your records.
  9. Click Finish to complete the data upgrade process.
  10. Click OK on the message that appears advising P11D needs to recalculate employees' figures.

Your software is now set up and ready to use.
