Known issue resolved: 'The weekly SSP payment is the...' at year end

Created on  | Last modified on

Summary

An issue causing Sage 50 Payroll not to pay Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) at the end of the 2025/2026 with certain working patterns.

Description

Sage 50 Payroll applies transitional SSP rules to calculate continuous SSP between tax years as applicable.

However, this issue occurred to an employee's SSP when:

  • Their SSP period started in the 2025/2026 tax year
  • Their absence pattern included Sunday and Monday
  • You enter the minimum qualifying number of consecutive days of SSP, with no additional qualifying days
  • There are no non-qualifying days between the SSP days in the old tax year

The issue caused the software not to calculate the SSP that's due for the last days of the 2025/2026 tax year.

The software still calculated SSP for any absence at the start of the 2026/2027 tax year.

Errors

When the issue occurred, any SSP not yet updated that the software had calculated for the absence up to 5 April becomes £0. The following error appears:

'Linked previous PIW indicates that no SSP is due. Remember to complete an SSP1 form.'

If you then remove the 6 April 2026 absence, the following error appears:

'The weekly SSP payment is the lower of the full weekly SSP rate or 0% of the employee’s average weekly pay. This employee will receive less than the full weekly rate due to this.'

Software update

We've resolved this issue in Sage 50 Payroll v32.00.318.
