Effective September 30, 2025, Sage will introduce new Sage Accounting plans for small businesses. Carbon Accounting powered by Sage Earth is now included across all plans, both new and existing. These new plans include updates to features, and plan structure, and will apply to new customer subscriptions only for now.

What’s Changing

  • New Plan Structure: Four plans will be available — Start, Standard, Plus, and our new Outsourced Accounting plan

Included Features:

  • AI and Sage Copilot: One user included in Start, Standard, and Plus. Additional users: £20 each/month
  • Sage Payroll: Included in Start, Standard (1 employee), and Plus (5 employees). Additional employees: £1.50 per employee/month
  • Sage Earth Carbon Accounting: Included across all plans including existing plans
  • AI Captured Receipts & Invoice Credits: Included in Standard, Plus, and Outsourced (30 to 100 credits; £0.20 per extra document)
  • New Plan for Fully managed Clients: “Outsourced Accounting” plan is intended for clients who are managed entirely by the accountant

Making Tax Digital (MTD)

Sage Accounting continues to support MTD compliance. Features support both collaborative and non-collaborative workflows, allowing practices to choose how they work with each client.

Client Management

The new Outsourced Accounting plan allows segmentation based on whether clients collaborate with the accountant. Other features, such as automated document capture, payroll, and client onboarding tools, remain available across applicable plans.

What is Sage Copilot and how does it work?

Sage Copilot can help you move faster so you can focus on what matters most. It’s your dedicated AI-powered productivity assistant, working in the background helping you streamline tasks, make informed decisions, and get more jobs done efficiently.

Is my data secure with Sage Copilot?

Will Sage Copilot change how I use my accounting software?

Copilot won’t impact your current workflows but will enhance end to end workflows including VAT submission, getting paid and reconciling your transactions. You can still use your existing workflows without disruption and Copilot will be there to explore. Look out for Copilot in the top right corner to open the chat window or click the insights throughout Sage Accounting.

How do I add Sage Copilot users to my subscription?

You can change a subscription at any time by logging into Client Management.

  1. From the Clients and prospects list, select the client you want to buy a subscription. 
  2. Select the Products.
  3. Select Manage subscriptions.
  4. Select the subscription you want to add Sage Copilot to.
  5. Choose to add Copilot for how many users you need, and the subscription will be updated.
  6. We'll show you a preview of your revised monthly subscription charges.
  7. Select Apply.
  8. Your monthly bill will update accordingly.

Why is Sage Copilot part of my subscription?

At Sage, we’re committed to continuously improving your experience using our solutions. AI is the future of productivity, and by embedding Sage Copilot we’re ensuring you have access to the latest technology to boost your productivity. You get one user of Sage Copilot, assigned to the business owner as standard, but you can reassign this to a different user. Read how to Assign users to your Sage Copilot licenses.

Copilot is now an integral feature of all  Sage Accounting plans to ensure all users benefit from its productivity-enhancing features and innovation. 

AI-Capture Receipts and Invoices

How does AI-capture receipts and invoices work?

If you haven’t setup AI-capture receipts and invoices already, you’ll automatically get access from July. Here’s how it works:

  • Upload your purchase invoices and scans of receipts as PDF, JPG. JPEG, PNG and TIFF files. You can do this by mobile app, by email or in the desktop application 
  • We create a draft purchase invoice from your uploaded document
  • Review and approve the draft invoices 

How does AI-capture receipts and invoices impact my subscription?  

  • Sage Accounting Start: Purchase invoice capability isn’t included in our Start plan. Upgrade to get access
  • Sage Accounting Standard: You can approve 30 purchase invoices a month with your subscription. We charge 20p for every extra approved purchase invoice. We'll add this charge to your direct debit the following month
  • Sage Accounting Plus: You can approve 100 purchase invoices a month with your subscription. We charge 20p for every extra approved purchase invoice. We'll add this charge to your direct debit the following month
  • Outsourced Accounting plan: You can approve 30 purchase invoices a month with your subscription. We charge 20p for every extra approved purchase invoice. We'll add this charge to your direct debit the following month
  • Included purchase invoices will reset every month, meaning any unused allocation won’t carry over to the next month

Customers will be notified when they reach the purchase automation limit.

Sage Earth Carbon Accounting

What is Sage Earth Carbon Accounting? (Now available across all Sage Accounting plans whether new or existing)

How do clients get access to Carbon Accounting?

Clients will only be able to access the new plans if access is granted by their accountant through User Management. Existing clients may receive access before accountants at the practice level.

Plans

If I'm a Start customer, what happens if I have more than one user? 

Users will continue as normal. If you are over the limit of one user when you make a change or add another user, you’ll be asked to upgrade.

If I am a Standard customer, what happens if I have more than three users?

Users will continue as normal. If you are over the limit of three users when you make a change or add another user, you’ll be asked to upgrade.

Does this include my Accountant as a user?

No, your accountant isn’t counted within the user limits. Therefore, if you have a Start subscription you have one user plus your accountant. If you have a Standard subscription, you have three users, plus your accountant.

Can I Invite my clients to the outsourced accountancy plan?

No, this plan is specifically designed for clients where the accountant does all the work on behalf of the client, therefore clients can not be invited to this plan. If you want to collaborate with clients, we have our Start, Standard and Plus plans that are designed to allow this.

Can I transfer my existing clients’ plans to the new plans?
Currently, transferring existing client plans to the new plans is not available. Please stay tuned for any future updates regarding this.

Subscription changes

What if I want to make changes to my subscription? 

You can make changes to your subscription at any time by logging into your product.

  • From the Clients and prospects list, select the client you want to buy a subscription for
  • Select the Products tab
  • Select Manage subscriptions
  • Select the subscription you want to modify or change

You can cancel your subscription at any time with 30 days notice.
