Information about exporting the FPS file and where to find it, in preparation for importing into Sage Payroll.

Description

To import your employees into Sage Payroll, you need to use a Full Payment Submission (FPS) file. This is the form that submits to HMRC each time you complete your payroll.

An FPS is specific to a pay frequency, so export one FPS file for every pay cycle you run.

 NOTE: The FPS file needs to be in an .xml format and must be no bigger than 25MB. 

Resolution

The process for creating your FPS file varies depending on your old payroll software. If you were using Sage 50 Payroll, use the steps below. If you were using any other software, you must speak to the provider for guidance.

▼Find your FPS file

If you're using Sage 50 Payroll:

  1. From e-Submissions select FPS Viewer.
  2. Select the FPS you want to export then Export XML.

Finding your most recent FPS file:

To find your most recent submission for Sage 50 Payroll the filename is SgeFPS-<YEAR>-<MONTH>-<DAY>-<HOUR>-<MINUTE>-<SECONDS>.xml.

For example: SgeFPS-2021-02-03-13-22-05.xml
