Accessing decrypted full payment submission (FPS) files
Description

When you submit a Full Payment Submission (FPS) to HMRC, an encrypted version of this data is saved in your data location in an .xml file. Simplified versions of the data contained in these files can be viewed inside the e-submissions log or FPS viewer.

Sometimes you might need to view more detail about the information included on the FPS, or you may be asked to provide information from a decrypted version of the FPS to the Home Office, for example as part of Visa applications for your employees.

In version 27.01.172 of Sage 50 Payroll and above, you can decrypt this information from within the program itself.

Resolution
  1. Open Sage 50 Payroll.
  2. Click e-Submissions, then FPS Viewer...
  3. Scroll down and highlight the submission you need to decrypt.
  4. Click Export Xml.
  5. Browse to where you want to save the decrypted information, and enter a file name.
  6. Click Save.
  7. Click Close, to close the FPS Viewer.

You can then browse to the location you saved the decrypted .xml file, and double-click it to open it.

TIP: We recommend opening the .xml file in Internet Explorer so that information is clearer to read.

CAUTION: As the decrypted .xml file contains sensitive data about your employees, you should delete the file when it is no longer required and ensure it is saved in a secure location.
