'Data service unavailable on this machine' when trying to upgrade

Summary

How to resolve this issue, which may appear when you upgrade Sage 50 Accounts.

Description

After attempting to upgrade, when you open your software, in the Select company window the Company name may show as:

'Data service unavailable on this machine'

If you then open the company, you get the message:

This is because only the data service for the new version of Sage 50 Accounts has been installed. When you open your software, you're still using an earlier version.

To resolve this, you need to uninstall the data service, then re-install the software. Let's do this now.

Resolution

 NOTE: Use our Data Service Manager which makes this process easier. To find out more, visit Using the Sage 50 Data Service Manager in v31 and above.

Download Sage 50 Accounts

NOTE: If you've already downloaded the Sage 50 Accounts installation file, skip to Uninstall Sage 50 Accounts data service.

  1. Click the link below for the version of Sage 50 Accounts you want to install:
  2. If prompted, enter your My Sage login details, click Sign In, then click Download.
  3. If prompted to save the file, note the file name, then click Save.
    NOTE: Depending on your web browser, the file may save to your Downloads folder automatically. To view your Downloads folder, press Ctrl + J on your keyboard. 

Uninstall Sage 50 Accounts data service

  1. Double-click the Sage 50 Accounts installation file.
  2. Click I accept the terms of the Licence Agreement check box then click Next.
  3. Click Remove where it says Remove Sage 50 Accounts Data Service from your computer.
  4. Once complete, if you're prompted to restart your computer click Restart later, otherwise click Close.

Re-install Sage 50 Accounts

  1. Double-click the Sage 50 Accounts installation file you downloaded above again.
  2. Click I accept the terms of the Licence Agreement check box then click Next.
  3. Click Standard (recommended) then click Yes, begin installation.
  4. Once complete, if you're prompted to restart your computer click Restart now, otherwise click Close.
