Summary
Description
When you create a company in Sage 50 Accounts it contains a unique identifier so any information about the company is associated to this ID.
This ID is only created when you create a new company and when you create a backup it is stored with the backup file as part of the data.
This means when you create a new company from an existing company you must not restore data and then rebuild or copy the data files.
If data is restored into a new company and rebuilt it will cause issues. Areas of the software affected include, but are not limited to:
- Future new features and updates
- Backup and restore paths
- Accountants Link (Retired in v30)
Resolution
Create a new company when in an existing company
- Go to File then New then click Company.
- Complete the ActiveSetup as required.
Copy information from another company
You must not restore a backup copy of the data files and rebuild the data.
To copy information from an existing company, export the information from the existing company then import. Use the Import option in the new company to import the information you require.
This means you can also remove any information you don't need before you import it.
