How to produce a Return of Trading Details
Description

How to generate an RTD in your software to enter the details on the Revenue Online Service (ROS) form on the ROS website.

If you're using Sage 50 Accounts v32.1 or below, follow our alternative article to produce a Return of Trading Details.

Before you start

Ensure all checks are complete using our Prepare the Return of Trading Details article.


Generate the RTD values

  1. Go to VAT then select RTD.
    RTD icon in the VAT module.

    The Return of Trading Details window shows the following information: 

RTD window.

Supplies of Goods and Services Net of Postponed Accounting & VAT free imports The value of goods and services supplied. These list by VAT rate and the software includes them in the relevant rate box.
Acquisitions from EU Countries Net of VAT, Postponed Accounting & VAT free imported parcels The value of Intra EU acquisitions of goods and imported parcels where VAT doesn't apply. The breakdown by VAT rate into the different boxes is based on the VAT rate applicable in Ireland to the goods acquired.
Stock for Resale (purchases, Intra-EU acquisitions Postponed Accounting & imports)  The value of all stock purchased for resale. The breakdown by VAT rate into the different box values is based on the VAT rate applicable in Ireland to the goods.
Other Deductible Goods & Services (purchases, Intra-EU acquisitions Postponed Accounting & imports)  The value of goods purchased that you won't resell but where you can claim VAT paid as an input credit. The values list by VAT rate the software includes them in the relevant rate box. The breakdown by VAT rate into the different boxes is based on the VAT rate applicable in Ireland to the goods.
  1. In For the period, enter the dates to calculate RTD values from and to. 
  2. Click Calculate.
  3. To see a breakdown of transaction values, calculate your RTD return and click the value in the relevant box.
  4. Click Print if required, then under Report Type choose from the following options:
    • Return - If you want to print the RTD values, select this option
    • Summary - To print a detailed summary of the RTD values broken into tax codes and transaction types 
  5. Select Output as Printer then click Run, select the correct printer, then click OK.
  6. Click Save then to flag the transactions as included in an RTD.
  7. Click Yes then click Close.

You can now use the RTD report to add the relevant values onto the official Revenue RTD form.

In Sage 50 Accounts, the Return of Trading Details (RTD) form includes all tax rates to conform to current Revenue legislation.

To see which tax codes affect which box, refer to the table below:

  NOTE: T20, T51, and T52 appear in various boxes depending if the transaction is sales or purchases and the configuration of the tax code. Use our Default tax codes article for more information on the configuration of the codes.
