Basic checks If you're still unable to install Sage 50 Accounts after making these basic checks, move on to the next section. Further troubleshooting Run the software from the sage.exe file
- Browse to the Sage 50 Accounts program directory, by default:
32-bit operating system - C:\Program Files\Sage\Accounts 64-bit operating system - C:\Program Files (x86)\Sage\Accounts - Right-click sage.exe and click Run as administrator or, if this isn’t available, click Open.
If the software opens successfully, to create a new shortcut, right-click the sage.exe file, click Send to, then click Desktop (create shortcut). Delete contents of .Net folder - Browse to C:\Windows\Temp\.net
NOTE: You need administrator permission to access this folder.
- To select all files and folders within the .Net folder, hold down Ctrl + A.
- To delete the files, press Delete then click Yes.
- Try to install your software again.
Delete contents of the temp folder First, if you've recently tried to install from a download, copy the Sage Accounts folder: - Press and hold down the Windows key
and press R. - In the Open box, type %temp% then click OK.
- Locate and right-click the Sage Accounts folder and click Copy.
- Close the Explorer window then right-click the Windows desktop and click Paste.
To delete the contents of the temp folder: - Press and hold down the Windows key
and press R. - In the Open box, type %temp% then click OK.
- To select all files and folders, hold down Ctrl + A.
- To delete the files, press Delete then click Yes.
- Try to install your software again.
Install directly from the packages folder The steps here assume you've recently tried to install Sage 50 Accounts from a download. - On the Windows desktop, open the Sage Accounts folder you copied in the previous section.
- Open the packages folder.
- Install the relevant files in the following order:

- In the Processes tab, check the Process name column for the following processes. Select the process and click End task or End Process.
TIP: To show the Process name column, right-click the column headers and select it from the list. idriver.exe | isuninst.exe | sgregsvr.exe | ikernel.exe | msiexec.exe | uninst16.exe | isetup.exe | sbddesktop.exe | uninst.exe | isun16.exe | setup.exe | excel.exe | - To close Task Manager, on the menu bar click File then Exit Task Manager.
- Install the software again.
Run antivirus scan and disable antivirus - Using your antivirus software, run an antivirus scan. If you're unsure how to do this, contact your IT support.
- If your antivirus doesn't find any problems, temporarily disable your antivirus software then try to install your software again.
For help with your antivirus, here’s a list of the most common antivirus support sites: CAUTION: Sage can’t accept liability for any issues that result from disabling your antivirus software. If you're unsure, contact your local IT support. Manually register msiexec.exe Hold down the Windows key + R then, in the Open box, type msiexec.exe /regserver then click OK. - If the file can't be registered, a message appears and you should contact your IT support for further help.
- If no message appears, the file has successfully registered. Try installing the software again.
Repair the Microsoft .NET Framework - Hold down the Windows key + R, then type CMD, to run as administrator, hold down Ctrl + Shift and press Enter.
- Type sfc /scannow then press Enter.
The message 'Beginning system scan. This process will take some time' appears. This scan will take several minutes to complete.
When the scan is complete, the SFC tool offers to fix any issues found.
- If no errors appear or all errors are fixed but the issue persists, check for problems with the Microsoft .NET Framework or ensure you have v4.6 or above installed.
CAUTION: Installing or repairing Microsoft .NET Framework can affect other software. Therefore, contact your IT support or Microsoft support for further help with this. - Try to install your software again.
