Share and point to Sage 50 Accounts data over a network
Description

If you use Sage 50 Accounts over a network, you must share the data so that you can access it from different computers. Different versions of Windows use different methods for sharing and connecting to data.

 NOTE: You can also move your Sage 50 Accounts data.

Follow each step in turn.

 

▼Locate your Sage data
  1. On the computer that can already access the company data, open Sage Accounts and on the menu bar click Help then click About.
  2. Under Program details, make a note of the Version Number and Data Directory.

▼Share your Sage data

Before you can access the data from a different computer, share folder permissions.

 NOTE: To avoid issues with Windows permissions, log on to the computer as an administrator. 

Once you've shared the data, you can browse to it from other computers.

 NOTE: To help you find the shared folder from other computers, make a note of the computer name: 

  • Hold down the Windows key  + R, enter control /name microsoft.system, then click OK and make a note of the Computer name.

▼Connect to your Sage data from another computer
Add a new company to a new installation
  1. Open Sage Accounts, if required enter your registration details and click Continue.
  2. Select Use an existing company stored on your network then click Browse.
  3. Enter or browse to the location of the shared folder then select the ACCDATA folder and click OK then Next.
  4. Confirm the details of the company you're connecting to then click Connect or Convert.

You can now open your company in Sage Accounts from this computer.

Add a new company to the existing installation
  1. Log in to an existing company on Sage Accounts with the username manager, if required, enter the password then click File then New then Company.
  2. Select Use an existing company stored on your network then click Browse.
  3. Enter or browse to the location of the shared folder then select the ACCDATA folder and click OK then Next.
  4. Confirm the details of the company you're connecting to then click Connect or Convert.

You can now open your company in Sage Accounts from this computer.

Change the location of an existing company
  1. Browse to the Company file:

     NOTE: The ProgramData folder maybe hidden. For help with showing hidden files and folders.

  2. Double-click the Company file, then click Notepad, then click OK.
  3. Change the path in the Company file to the new data location. If the Company file contains more than one path, only change the path you noted in the first step.

    The data path is intended to never contain ACCDATA, it will always be up to the folder which contains the ACCDATA folder.

  4. On the menu bar, click File, then Save, then click File, then Exit.
