Download and install the e-Banking componentTo get started, you must install the e-Banking component for your bank. Your software uses the component to format e-Banking files correctly for your bank.
Please be aware we don't create new components or make changes to existing components. NOTE: To install the component you need to log into your computer as an administrator, this should be the local machine that you are installing the component on, components should not be installed across a network. You can use our guide to check if you're an administrator > - Go to sage.co.uk/ebanking
- On the left side menu click, Compatible banks.
- Locate your bank from the list.
- Click Download plug-in.
If prompted, click Save. - Double click the downloaded file.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation.
NOTE: E-Banking doesn't support non UK banks that use IBAN and BIC numbers. If you need to pay such accounts, you must do this outside of Sage 50 Payroll.
Enter your bank details and configure e-BankingBefore you can generate any payment files, you need to enter your company bank account details and configure the relevant e-Banking component > - On the navigation bar click Company, then click Settings.
- Click the Bank tab and enter your company's bank account details.
- Select the Enable e-Banking check box.
- On the Component list, click the required bank software.
If there are no components in the list, click Change or Update Component and download the relevant e-Banking component. See previous section.
- Click Config and complete the following options that apply to Sage 50 Payroll in Sage e-Banking Configuration window as follows:
Common directory | This displays the folder where the payment file is held. By default the files are stored in C:\. To amend this, enter the path or click Browse and locate the required folder. If you specify a folder here, Sage 50 Payroll defaults to this location during the e-Banking process, although if required, you can still save the file to a different location. |

File identifier | If you want to use pre-set text for part of the payment file name, you can specify it here. You can enter a maximum of four characters and any letters appear in upper case. You can also change the file name during the e-Banking process if required. If you don't enter a File identifier, the file name generates using your computer system date. For example if your system date is 15 July 2017, the file name is 15072017. |

File extension | The file extension that you need to use, depends on your bank software. You can specify the file extension appropriate to your bank software, for example txt or csv, in this box. Sage 50 Payroll defaults to this file extension at the end of the e-Banking process, although you can still change it if required. - Click OK, then OK.
If your company bank account changes, you can download the relevant component and follow these steps again to set up e-Banking for your new account.
Set up your employees for electronic paymentsYour software includes employees in an e-Banking file if their payment method is set to BACS. Or, if you pay directly or indirectly to BACS using a Service User Number (SUN), you need to set the payment method as Direct BACS. Find out how to set up your employees for e-Banking > - Double-click the relevant employee, then click the Employment tab.
- On the Payment Method list, click BACS.
Or, if applicable, click Direct BACS. Find out more about Direct BACS in our paying employees by BACS with a Service User Number (SUN) guide. - Click the Banking tab and enter the employee's bank account details.
- Click Save, then click Next.
- Repeat steps 3 to 6 until you've entered each employee's bank details.
- Click Close.
NOTE: Ebanking uses the payment method set at the time you update records for each pay run. If you need to change payment method to BACS or Direct BACS after you've updated records, rollback that period before you make the amendment.
Create your payment file to import into your banking softwareYou can create an e-Banking file for your pay run after you've updated records. Once you've completed the setup above and updated your records, you're ready to export your e-Banking file > - Select the relevant employees, then click Payroll.
- Click e-Banking, then click OK.
- Check the values.
- Deselect any employees you don't want to pay.
- Click Post.
If you select employees who you've previously posted for this period, you receive a message advising you of this. If you want to post the payment details for these employees again, click Yes, otherwise click No and deselect the relevant employees, then click Post. NOTE: Clicking Post creates the file, it doesn't post it to the bank. - Click OK.
- If required, edit the File name and change file location, click Save.
Depending on the e-Banking component you're using, the Payment Processing window may appear. If it does, ensure the debit date is correct, this is the date your bank uses to post the payment transactions. Make your selection from the available options, and enter the required references, then click OK. If you want to check the contents of your payment file, simply browse to the folder you saved it in and right-click it, then select Open With..., then choose Notepad. This ensures that the format of the file or its contents doesn't change by opening it in Excel.
