Summary
Learn why Sage Accounting or Sage Sole Trader shows an error from HMRC when you send an Income Tax quarterly update, and what to do next.
Description
There's a known issue where the quarterly update dates HMRC holds don't match your standard or quarterly update period type.
When some businesses change their quarterly update period, HMRC doesn't update the quarterly dates correctly. This causes updates to fail. The issue is on HMRC's side, not with Sage. Your figures in Sage Sole Trader and Sage Accounting are correct and safe.
Resolution
Check your update settings
- Go to Manage business details and select the Refresh details button at the bottom of this page to ensure the update period is aligned with HMRC.
- If the update period is not set to your preference, Standard or Quarterly, select the option to change this setting.
Retry your submission
- Go to Income Tax summary and send your update again. If this still fails wait at least one week before you try again. HMRC have committed to fix these date issues within one week where they occur.
- After one week, go to Income Tax summary and send your update again.
While you wait, Sage refreshes your HMRC data regularly. When HMRC corrects the dates, your update goes through with no further action from you.
If your update still fails after one week, wait a few more days, then try again.
