We've gathered together some fantastic payroll and employer resources to keep you up to date with changes in legislation, as well as the latest information and help available to you.

Resolution

Reclaim small employers' relief

Did you know that all employers can reclaim some, if not all, of the statutory maternity pay (SMP), statutory paternity pay (SPP), statutory adoption pay (SAP) and shared parental pay (ShPP) that they pay to employees?

If you're classed as a small employer, you can reclaim 100% plus 3% in small employers' relief. Otherwise, you can reclaim 92%.

By default, Sage 50 Payroll automatically calculates 92%. If you're a small employer, you must change a setting in your software so that 100% plus 3% small employers' relief is calculated.

Claim employment allowance

Employment Allowance allows eligible employers to reduce their annual National Insurance liability by up to £4,000.

You pay less employers’ Class 1 National Insurance each time you run your payroll until the £4,000 has gone or the tax year ends, whichever is sooner.

You can only claim against your employers’ Class 1 National Insurance liability up to a maximum of £4,000 each tax year.

Forgot to claim in previous tax years

You can claim employment allowance for the previous four tax years, dating back to 2016/2017 tax year.

To claim for past years, it does not matter how much your employers’ Class 1 National Insurance liability was or how much de minimis state aid you received.

Employment allowance was £3,000 each tax year between April 2016 and April 2020.

Sage Help Centre

A fantastic online support tool that you can access at any time, where you can search our knowledge base for answers, find step-by-step support guides, watch a video, attend a webinar and stay up to date with what's currently trending.

Time saving features

Sage 50 Payroll has loads of features you may not know about, that can save time when processing your payroll.

The Coronavirus information hub

To help you prepare for the ever changing situation surrounding Coronavirus, we’ve created a dedicated area of our Help Centre, which includes government guidance for employers and businesses, and how to set up your Sage software for home working.

Check your HMRC submissions

It's important that you view and reconcile the figures that you send HMRC in your full payment submission (FPS) and employer payment summary (EPS) each period, and check this against your data in Sage 50 Payroll.

You can reconcile your HMRC values using the FPS viewer and some reconciliation reports, so you can be confident about what you submit each period.

Right to work checks

As an employer, you have a legal obligation to ensure that anyone you're employing has the right to work in the UK, by carrying out the necessary checks.

HMRC resources

HMRC publishes the employer bulletin six times a year. These give employers and agents the latest information on topics and issues that may affect them.

The HMRC Online Customer Forum is also a good place to go to see what others are asking, ask your own questions and get answers from experts.

Pensions re-enrolment

Re-enrolment means every three years you must put certain employees back into an automatic enrolment pension scheme and complete a re-declaration of compliance to tell TPR you've met your duties.

Community Hub

Open 24/7, Community Hub is an online community for customers, partners, accountants and colleagues, and is a gateway to a wealth of Sage resources.

You can visit any time to find answers and ask questions, or share product experiences, tips and suggestions with colleagues, as well as industry and product experts.

It's the place to help you and others build, support and learn.
