What does MAPI (Messaging Application Program Interface) compliant mean?

Created on  | Last modified on

Summary

A definition of MAPI and MAPI compliance and how this works with Sage software.

Description

MAPI (Messaging Application Program Interface) is a Windows file structure that enables other software to add files to an email. Any email software that can accept MAPI files is MAPI-compliant.

There are two types of MAPI compliance, Simple and Extended. Microsoft Outlook uses Extended whereas other software such as Outlook Express and Thunderbird use Simple.

Sage software is designed to connect to extended MAPI software. However if you use software such as Thunderbird or Microsoft 365, you can still email from Sage using SMTP settings.

Compatibility

MAPI is only compatible with 32-bit software. If you use the 64-bit version of Sage 50 Accounts, MAPI is not compatible.
