Summary
Description
Set up overrides to analyse your salary journals. They break down the values further and you can post them to different nominal codes, departments or cost centres.
For example, for employees assessed to be inside the IR35 rules and who you class as deemed employees under Off-payroll working rules (IR35). You can assign the employees to a specific department and then set up departmental overrides.
Resolution
Set up overrides
- Select Company, then Nominal Settings.
- Go to the P&L Analysis or BS Analysis tab, then choose the relevant override button.
See Override priorities section. - If you're entering a departmental or cost centre override, choose the relevant reference.
- Click Edit then, if applicable, click a further override option.
- In the relevant box, click the drop-down arrow, then select the nominal code you want to use.
- Click OK. Alternatively, you can create a new code.
- If applicable, enter the accounts department in the Acc Dept column.
NOTE: Changes to nominal overrides take place the next time you update records. To override a period you've already updated, you need to roll back or recover, then reprocess.
Override priorities
If you have multiple overrides set up, some types of overrides take priority over others. For example, if you set up payments overrides and use departments, the priority is as follows:
Departmental overrides with payments overrides
- Select Departmental Override, then Edit.
- Select Payments Override and enter a code against the relevant pay elements.
Payment overrides
- Select Payments Override on the main P&L Analysis tab.
- Enter a code against the relevant pay elements.
Default departmental overrides
- Select Departmental Override, then Edit.
- Enter a code against Payments, but don't click Payments Override.
Default payments code
- Any values that you haven't set an override up for post against the code you enter on the P&L Analysis tab
These priorities apply to each of the different types of overrides.
TIP: Cost centres have the same priorities as departments.
If you override pensions, the value against the code you enter on the P&L Analysis tab is the employer's contribution. The value on the BS Analysis tab is the employer and employee value.
