Index is out of date message when launching the software

This guide explains how to resolve the error message 'index out of date' in Sage Accounts Production (SAP).


When opening SAP you may receive the message 'Index is out of date'. Once closing the error, the client list will not appear. Once you try and open the client list you will receive another error which will say 'Unable to find client list'.


This issue can occur if the .MDX files have been corrupted.


To resolve this issue you will need to do the following:

  1. Click Tools then click Settings then Workstation settings and make note of the Client List Path.
  2. Now Close SAP.
  3. Open Windows Explorer and browse to the Client List Path you noted down.
  4. In the the Client List Path folder, delete any files with a .MDX extension within. 
  5. Open SAP and the issue should now be resolved.
