An employee can work for up to ten KIT days during their maternity or adoption leave, without losing any of their maternity or adoption pay.
You can also use KIT days to help ease an employee's eventual return to work.
Once your employee's used their ten KIT days, for any week or part week they work during their leave period, they lose a whole week of their maternity or adoption pay.
For example, if an employee works two days in the same week, they lose one whole week's maternity or adoption pay. If they were to work two days, but in two different weeks, they'd lose two week's maternity or adoption pay.
The number of KIT days you can enter onto the diary is limited to ten. If you try to add more, a message appears advising that you've exceeded the maximum number of days. If the employee's worked more than ten days, you must enter any additional days as weeks worked, rather than KIT days. The KIT Days box shows the number of KIT days that the employee has already taken.
The KIT days appear on the absence diary, denoted by the letter I, and the KIT Days box updates.
The KIT days that appear are based on the employee's working day pattern, specified within their holiday settings. For example, if an employee works Monday to Wednesday and their working day pattern is set up as NQQQNNN, when you enter KIT days for a range from Monday to Friday, only Monday to Wednesday appear as KIT days on the diary.
You can see how many KIT days an employee has taken in the following places:
If the employee's worked one day in each of three different weeks, then you must enter 3 here. If they worked three days in one week, enter 1.
Once you've entered any weeks worked during the maternity or adoption pay period, the employee's pay entitlement reduces by the relevant number of weeks.
For example - if your employee takes more than ten KIT days, any additional days reduces their maternity entitlement.
