Created on  | Last modified on

Summary

How to resolve this error in Sage 50 Accounts.

Description

When you print or preview a document, the following message can appear: 'Sage report designer is unable to generate report: out of memory'.

It can also appear if a report is running in the background, for example, reconciling the VAT Return.

Resolution

Install the latest version of Sage 50 Accounts 64-bit software. If you haven't already, install it now.

If you're unable to upgrade to the 64-bit version of Sage 50 Accounts, follow the steps below.

Restart the computer

Restart the computer then retry the report. If the issue persists, follow the steps in the Refresh the default printer driver section.

Refresh the default printer driver

  1. Press and hold the Windows key and press R.
  2. Type control printers, then press Enter. Note the default printer name.
  3. Right-click a different printer and select Set as default printer.
  4. Open your software and preview the document. Close your software.
  5. Press and hold the Windows key and press R.
  6. Type control printers and press Enter.
  7. Right-click the original default printer driver noted in step 2, then click Set as Default Printer.
  8. Open the Sage software and retry the document.

If the issue persists, follow the Set Save printer Settings to False section.

Set Save Printer Settings to False

If the document is customised, try using the Windows default printer:

  1. Open your document in Sage Report Designer. Use our Open and save your reports and layouts article to do this.
  2. In the Report Explorer pane, select View then Properties.
TIP: For more Report Designer help, use our I customise my reports and layouts? article.

  3. Change Save Printer Settings to False.

Save Printer Settings option selected with False highlighted.

  4. Click File, then click Save.

File size and image resolution

This message appears if the report or layout has a high-resolution or large image.

Remove the image and run the report or layout again. If it runs, replace the image with a lower resolution or smaller file size using our Add an image or logo to a document article.

As a rule, use as small a file as possible without affecting the image resolution. Ensure the image resolution is 450x450 or less.

TIP: You can reduce the image resolution by copying it into Microsoft Word, saving and re-uploading to your report or layout.

Next steps

If, after following the above steps the issue still occurs, it can be due to corruption in your data or layout. Get in touch with Sage Technical Support for further assistance.
