Edit your financial budgets

 NOTE: This feature is only available in Sage Accounting Plus.

You can update your budget by editing a single row or replacing your budget values by adjusting your financial data.

You can also add additional financial years.

 TIP: Create a budget for any period you like; it doesn't need to cover a full year. Simply leave the months you don't want to budget for blank.  

Edit the budget for individual ledger accounts

You can edit the values for each ledger account.

  1. Go to Settings, Business Settings, then Financial Budgets.
  2. Choose the budget period from the drop down on the top right. 
  3. Locate the ledger account you want to update and choose Edit on the right. 
  4. Edit your budget values, then select Save.

If you want to view the impact of the changes, select Run report (opens in a new tab)


Replace budget values

Update your budget using your data from Accounting.

 CAUTION: Once you replace the budget values, you can't undo the change. We recommend you download a copy of your current budget by following the instructions from Step 9.  

  1. Go to Settings, Business Settings, then Financial Budgets.
  2. Choose the budget period from the drop down on the top right. 
  3. Select Manage budget, then Replace budget values.
  4. Select the year you're updating and select Next.
  5. Choose how to fill in your budget.
    • To start with a blank template that you can export, update, and re-import, choose From a template spreadsheet.
    • To base your budget on the previous financial year's figures, choose From a financial year.
  6. If you chose From a template spreadsheet, select Replace budget values.

  7. If you chose From a financial year, select the financial year you want to base your budget on.
  8. Adjust category budgets by selecting the category and typing in an increase or decrease.
  9. Tick Download a copy, to save your existing budget as an Excel file.
     NOTE: We highly recommend you download a copy of your existing budget. Once you replace the budget values, you can't undo the change.  
  10. Select Replace budget values.
  11. Save the copy of your existing budget by choosing a location and selecting Save.
  12. Confirm the change by reviewing the message and selecting Yes if you agree to proceed. 

Add a financial year

Since you can only create one budget in Sage Accounting, each financial year is added to your default budget.

  1. Go to Settings, Business Settings, then Financial Budgets.
  2. Choose the budget period from the drop down on the top right. 
  3. Select Manage budget, then Add financial year.
  4. Select the period you want to add, then select Next.
  5. Choose how to fill in your budget.
    • To start with a blank template that you can export, update, and re-import, choose From a template spreadsheet.
    • To base your budget on the previous financial year's figures, choose From a financial year.
  6. If you chose From a template spreadsheet, select Replace budget values.

  8. Adjust category budgets by selecting the category and typing in an increase or decrease.
  9. Select Replace budget values.
