To become eligible for Shared Parental leave (SHPP) your employee must:

  • Share in the care of the child with their partner, the child’s other parent or joint adopter
  • Be employed by you for at least 26 continuous weeks by the end of the 15th week before the due date.
  • Or in the case of adoption by the matched date
  • Still be in your employ when they take the leave

Shared parental pay

To be eligible for shared parental pay, the employee must be eligible for one of the following:

  • Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP) or leave
  • Statutory Adoption Pay (SAP) or leave
  • Maternity Allowance (MA)
