Find and fix errors
Description

If your nominal account balances are higher or lower than expected, this could mean:

  • Missing postings
  • Double-booked postings
  • Incorrect postings

Drilling down is the best way to investigate any balance or total that appears incorrect on a report.

Resolution

Drill down the report data

Select any line to see the transactions that make up that balance. Drilling down on a Balance Sheet ledger account, opens the Nominal Activity Detail report. Review the transactions posted to the account. Select an amount if you want to drill down further.

To return to the report, select Back in your browser.

Changing your financial year

When you change your financial year end date in Settings, this updates for your current financial year. Previous financial years still use your previous year end date.

This means that comparative year on year reporting when choosing Previous Year from the filters won't be accurate.

To compare year on year, make sure you use a custom date range instead.

Find and fix errors

To fix a posting error, you'lll need to either amend the incorrect transaction or create a journal entry. If possible, amend an incorrect transaction. However, if it's a settled transaction, and you need to fix it with a journal entry, keep in mind that:

  • Select the affected ledger account on the adjustment side of the journal entry
  • It must be the opposite type of entry as the erroneous entry
  • If multiple lines, they must equal the amount of the erroneous entry
