When you first open your VAT Return, we recommend that you review each box value. You can use our help guide to review where your transactions should appear on the VAT Return. Read more on how the VAT return calculates. To see the transactions that make up each box value, use the detailed VAT report. Export a Detailed Report for a list all transactions included in the VAT Return. - From Reporting select VAT Returns.
- Open the VAT Return you want to check.
- Select Detailed Report and select either CSV or PDF.
This report helps you understand which transactions make up the total value of each box on the VAT Return. When you review this, make sure your transactions have the correct VAT rate and appear in the appropriate VAT box. When you review your detailed VAT report, there may be values that aren't not what you expect. You may find some transactions that don't show in your Detailed Report but do elsewhere. This can happen when: - The transaction has the wrong VAT rate
- You entered the transaction after you created the VAT Return
- The transaction has the wrong date
- Another VAT Return already includes this transaction
- You have entered journals that are not included on the VAT Return
If your VAT Return is calculating higher than you expect, this can be due to: - Duplicate transactions
- Transactions outside the scope of VAT marked Zero Rated in error - Zero-rated transactions is included on your VAT return. You should use No VAT rate.
- Transactions with the wrong VAT rate
- You have entered journals and included them on the VAT Return in error
Once you have identified errors, you need to correct them. Before you make any changes, delete your draft VAT Return: - From Reporting select VAT Returns.
- Select delete next to the draft VAT return.
- Select Yes to Are you sure you wish to delete this VAT Return?
Now that you have deleted your draft VAT Return you can add or amend any transactions. Read more on how to correct transactions included on the VAT Return. There may be times when you’re looking to find transactions that have not been included on a VAT Return. To do this, configure the Audit Trail to include transactions included on a VAT Return. - Select the cog in the top left of the report.
- Select VAT Reconciled then Save.
