The first thing to do before installing is check that you're logged into Windows as an administrator. This helps to ensure that you have access to add, change or remove files.

Run the installation as administrator

Even if you're not logged in as administrator, to perform administrative tasks, you can run software as an administrator:

  1. From the desktop, right-click the relevant shortcut then click Properties.
  2. Under the Compatibility tab, click Run this program as administrator.
  3. Click Apply then click OK.
NOTE: If a User Account Control prompt appears, you must enter the user name and password of an administrator, then click OK.
