Cause
Resolution

In the examples here we've used qq123456 as an incorrect company registration number and XX!8 1AA as an invalid postcode.

Msg: 'qq123456' violates the pattern constraint of '[A-Z0-9]{2,8}'.
The company registration number isn't entered using the expected format.
    1. Your company registration number can be found within Company Details
    2. Ensure that it consists of 8 numbers, or 2 upper case letters followed by 6 numbers

In the example above, 'qq123456' doesn't start with two upper case letters so won't pass the online filing validations

Scottish registration number, for example, will be upper case SC and 6 numbers.

The Unique Tax Reference isn't 10 digits

The Unique Tax Reference (UTR) must be 10 digits long with no spaces. This can be found within Company Details.

Charities and CASCs

This error could also be information entered in Charities & CASCs

  1. Under Tax Return Disclosure Information select Charities & CASCs
  2. Check the Charity Details section:
    • The Charity number should be the company's Charity Commission Registration number or Scottish Charity number, if it has one. This must be between six and eight characters. You should not enter any type of character other than numbers or letters
    • The Repayment reference must be between two and eleven characters and must start with CR, CH or X. You should not enter any type of character other than numbers or letters
Other reasons for this validation

This could also be a special character (&*') in the Company name or short name. These can be found under Company Details.

Please remember to tag your computation again once you have made any changes.

Msg: 'XX!8 1AA' violates pattern constraint of '[^!£$%\^\*\+€=_\{\}\{\};:@~#?<>

This validation would indicate thatan invalid postcode entered in one of the addresses. In the example above, we have given a postcode of XX!8 1AA - clearly the exclamation mark shouldn't be in the postcode.

Please review any areas that may have a postcode entered:

  • The contact details located under Company details
  • Any repayment details by selecting Tax Payments, Repayment details

If you're dealing with a long period, please check both the Year end and Period end columns.

Please remember to tag your computation again once you have made any changes.
