Record your daily takings from a bank feed

Summary

How to record each day's takings as its own transaction in Sage Sole Trader.

Description

Your bank feed imports money as it appears on your bank statement. Sometimes a single deposit covers more than one day of takings.

Record your takings to reflect what happened in real life. Each transaction covers one day, on the date you took the money. Don't combine several days into one transaction.

Resolution

Record a single day with one category

If a deposit covers one day and every amount uses the same category, record it as a single transaction.

  1. From Transactions, select Draft.
  2. Find the deposit transaction and select Edit.
  3. In the Description, enter the day, for example Takings for 5 June.
  4. Select a category for the takings.

If you'd rather record a line-by-line breakdown, you can split the deposit instead.

Split a single day across categories

If a deposit covers one day but includes amounts that need different categories, split it. Add a separate line for each amount, and give each line its own category. For the steps, see Split transactions.

Record takings that span several days

If a deposit covers more than one day, record each day on its actual date.

If your bank already imported each day as a separate transaction, categorise each one as normal.

If several days arrived as one deposit, replace it with a transaction for each day.

CAUTION:

Delete the original deposit before you add the daily transactions. If you keep both, Sage Sole Trader counts your takings twice.
