Unable to enter zeros for company dividend and shareholding

Created on  | Last modified on

Summary

Sage Taxation 2026 R1 doesn’t allow entering zero values for dividends or shareholding for close company employment records.

Description

In the 2025/26 tax year, taxpayers must disclose if they’re directors of a close company from which they received employment income.

Some directors have no dividends or shareholding but still need to report this, requiring zeros in boxes 7.3 and 7.4 on the Employment Schedule.

Personal Tax 2026 R1 currently restricts entering zero values for these fields.

Resolution

  1. Open Earned income followed by Employment
  2. Open Main details then view the Employment Details tab.
  3. Enter 0.01 in the Dividends received and enter 1 in the Percentage shareholding fields during data entry.
  4. Create a copy return for editing.
  5. Update boxes 7.3 and 7.4 on the Employment Schedule to 0.

This allows correct disclosure without preventing submission.

CAUTION:

We're aware of the issue with 2026 R1 and this is resolved in R2 coming later this year.
