Error: There was a problem finding your business

How to fix the error preventing Sage from finding your business with HMRC in Sage Sole Trader. This error occurs when setting up Making Tax Digital (MTD) for Income Tax.

The most common reason this error occurs is because your business type doesn't match the type of income you want to report.

• Check that your business type in Sage Sole Trader matches HMRC
• Make sure your National Insurance number is correct

Change your National Insurance Number:

1. Within the Find your business area, select the Enter your National Insurance number field and re-enter your NI number.
2. Use the same number you used during HMRC sign-up. Cross-reference this with the HMRC website.
