The steps involved in creating a pay calendar in Sage Payroll. This determines what pay cycle an employee is on.
You need at least one Pay Calendar before you can pay your employees. You need one calendar for each pay frequency you want to process.
- Select Settings from the menu bar.
- Select Pay Day Settings.
- Select Set up Weekly/2-Weekly/4-Weekly/Monthly Calendar. Complete the following information:
Weekly, 2-Weekly and 4-Weekly
| Item | Description |
| Pay Day | Choose the day of the week you want to pay your employees. |
| First Pay Run | Select the date you want to first pay your employees. You can only choose dates for the day you selected. |
Monthly
| Item | Description |
| Pay On | Monthly only:
- Same day of the month – Pay your employees on the same date each month.
- Last day of the month – Pay your employees on the last working day of each month.

| Day of the Month | If you chose Same day of the month, you must select the specific date. |
| First Pay Run | Select the tax year and the month you want to first pay your employees. |
- Select Save.
If your pay date falls on a bank holiday or weekend
In line with HMRC guidance, you must enter the usual date that you pay your employees, even if you pay them earlier or later.
EXAMPLE:
You pay your employees early because your usual payday falls on a Bank Holiday. Still enter your regular payday in Sage Payroll.
