Santander e-Banking file format update

Information on Santander changes that affect e-Banking files you create using Sage software.

Description

Santander have changed their file format for Bulk Faster payments, in line with industry standards.

This change affects the Bacs file that the existing Sage Santander e-Banking plug-in produces, in the following software:

  • Sage 50 Accounts
  • Sage 50 Payroll
  • Sage 200

These e-Banking files are no longer compatible for you to upload to Santander's website for Bulk Faster Payments.

In July 2025, we released an updated Santander e-Banking plug-in, based on revised file format guidance. However, this update prevents a workaround for Bulk Faster Payments that was possible with the prior plug-in.

New plug-in

We've worked with Santander to create a new Bulk Faster Payments e-Banking plug-in for the affected Sage software above. 

We released it in November 2025, and you can download it from the e-Banking compatible banks list.

Plug-ins

Select the relevant option below for help with creating e-Banking files for your preferred payment type:

Use the Add/Remove Programs option in Windows to uninstall any existing Santander plug-ins,

Click here to download the new Santander Bulk Faster Payments plug-in. After you download it, double-click the plug-in to run and install it

Create and submit the file

With this plug-in installed, your first step is to create your e-Banking file in your Sage software as normal.

You can then upload it to Santander to arrange Bulk Faster Payments.

The steps you need to follow depend on whether you're using Santander's new or old online payments system.

Select the payment system you use below for your next steps. If you're not sure which one you use, contact Santander to check before you continue.

The July 2025 plug-in allows you to output files in standard Bacs format with a Bacs Service User Number (SUN).

 NOTE: You enter your SUN during this e-Banking export. If you don't know your SUN and you need it, contact Santander to check it. 

If you haven't installed this plug-in yet, click here to begin the download.

After you download it, double-click the plug-in and complete the installation wizard to install it. You can then use e-Banking as normal to create Bacs payment files to upload to Santander.

The pre-July 2025 plug-in allows you to export e-Banking files compatible with this payment system.

If you've already installed the July 2025 plug-in, use the Add/Remove Programs option in Windows to uninstall this plug-in.

When you're ready to download the pre-July 2025 plug-in, click here.

After you download it, double-click the plug-in to run and install it. You can then use e-Banking as normal to create Bacs payment files to upload to Santander.
