Licenced version number doesn't match Program version number

How to update your licenced version number in Sage 50 Payroll.

Sometimes when you select Help then About, your software version number is different to the licenced version number.

This doesn't affect the legislation in your software, and calculations remain correct based on the Version Number in the Program Details section.

However, to access all the features and modules that your licence includes, you must have the correct licence details entered in your software.

The licenced version number is based on the serial number and activation key in your software. This controls which features and modules you can access.

The program version number, listed under the Program Details heading, is based on the software update you've installed most recently.

This is the version number that affects the legislation in your software.

You can update your licenced version number easily by updating the licence in your software.

Check your activation details

First, you need to note your latest activation details. This is your account number, serial number, and activation key.

If you don't have these to hand, get them using our find my serial number and activation key tool, then follow the steps below.

Check your software

Click Tools, then Upgrade Program. A window opens with the activation details that are currently in use in your software.

Details already match

If the details in your software are already up to date, you don't need to change anything. Instead, click Update and your software retrieves the latest licence information.

Details don't match

Follow the steps below, according to which details you need to change.

If multiple details in your software aren't up to date:

1. Delete the serial number and if applicable the account number, then enter the correct details into these fields.
2. Enter the new activation key in the New Key field.
3. Click Update, your software then runs through a short process to update the licensing files.

When your activation key is the only thing you need to change:

1. Select Tools then Upgrade Program.
2. Check you have a note of the correct account number and serial number along with the new activation key.
3. Change one digit of the serial number, so that it's incorrect.
4. Enter your new key and click Update.
5. Click OK on the error message advising your software couldn't retrieve a licence.
6. Enter the correct serial number and the new activation key.
7. Click Update.

Once your software has finished updating the licence, you can continue to process your payroll as normal.
