Summary
How to correct a bank opening balance in Sage Accounting.
Description
It's important that your records in Sage Accounting match your actual bank balance. How you correct an opening balance depends on whether it’s reconciled.
- If it's not reconciled, you can edit it
- If it’s reconciled, you can either delete the latest reconciliation or add an adjustment
Use Receipt (Debit) for positive balances and Payment (Credit) for overdrawn balances.
Resolution
Change a bank opening balance
- Go to Settings, then select Opening balances.
- Find the relevant bank account.
- If you haven't already reconciled your opening balance, enter the correct amount.
- If you've already reconciled your opening balance, choose one of the following:
- If the opening balance isn’t part of the latest reconciliation, add a new row to adjust the balance
- If it's part of the latest reconciliation, go to Banking, open the bank account, then delete the latest reconciliation. Return to Opening balances, then update the amount
- If you add an adjustment:
- Select the same bank account
- Check the date defaults to the day before your accounting start date
- Select Receipt (Debit) to increase the balance, or Payment (Credit) to decrease it
- Enter the difference between the incorrect and correct balance
- Save your changes.
