Who Can Join the Public Beta?

Eligibility depends on criteria set by both HMRC and Sage.

 

HMRC Requirements

Refer to the latest HMRC guidance on gov.uk to sign up voluntarily for Making Tax Digital for Income Tax.

 

Sage Requirements

Accountant must be using Sage for Accountants. Your clients can join the Public Beta if they're:

  • Existing Sage Accounting customers using the Start, Standard, or Plus tiers and Sage Accounting Individual 
  • Operate a single sole trade business per license

 

Restrictions

The Public Beta doesn't support:

  • Property income (UK and foreign)
  • Consolidated accounts reporting
  • Averaging (simplified) tax adjustments

 

How to Sign Up Clients for MTD for Income Tax

Before registering a client, you must:

  • Create an agent services account on gov.uk 
  • Obtain client authorisation via your agent services account
  • Existing clients: Copy authorisation from Self-Assessment
  • New clients: Request authorisation
