Who Can Join the Public Beta?
Eligibility depends on criteria set by both HMRC and Sage.
HMRC Requirements
Refer to the latest HMRC guidance: Sign up voluntarily for Making Tax Digital for Income Tax.
Sage Requirements
Accountant must be using Sage for Accountants. Your clients can join the Public Beta if they're:
- Existing Sage Accounting customers using the Start, Standard, or Plus tiers and Sage Accounting Individual
- Operate a single sole trade business per license
Restrictions
The Public Beta does NOT support:
- Property income (UK and foreign)
- Consolidated accounts reporting
- Averaging (simplified) tax adjustments
How to Sign Up Clients for MTD for Income Tax
Before registering a client, you must:
- Create an agent services account
- Obtain client authorisation via your agent services account
- Existing clients: Copy authorisation from Self-Assessment
- New clients: Request authorisation
