Reauthorise with HMRC

Created on  | Last modified on

Summary

How to reauthorise with HMRC in Accounting Start.

Description

To submit VAT Returns to HMRC, you must authorise Sage Accounting. You then need to reauthorise every 18 months. This is for data security purposes. You'll also need to reauthorise if you:

  • Disconnect from MTD
  • Change your VAT Registration Number

You sign in to the government gateway as part of this process.

Resolution

Reauthorise with HMRC

  1. Go to Settings, then Business settings.
  2. Select Accounting Dates & VAT.
  3. In the Making Tax Digital section, select Reconnect, then Authenticate. This opens the HMRC website.
  4. Select Continue, then enter your Government gateway User ID and Password.
  5. Select Grant Authority.
  6. In Sage Accounting, when you see a confirmation message at the bottom of the page, you're done.

NOTE:

You can't connect to Making Tax Digital with a draft, pending or failed VAT Return. Submit or delete the return and try again. To delete, read delete a VAT Return.

Fix MTD reauthorisation errors

When you try to authenticate with HMRC or submit a VAT Return, the following message can appear:

'We were unable to authenticate with HMRC'

Read Error: Unable to authenticate with HMRC for more information.
