Summary

You'll see an error when selecting Unknown Currency when creating a company in Sage 50 Accounts v27 and above. The error is 'Failed to create accounts data files - check diskspace'.

Description

When you create a company and select <Unknown Currency> in the Base currency dropdown, you'll see an error. This appears when you press 'Create' on the last step:
'Failed to create accounts data files - check diskspace'.
Failed to create accounts data files - check diskspace error.
The error appears even when sufficient disk space is available. 

Resolution

Workaround

When creating the company, choose a different currency then you can edit this after creating the company.

 Once you create the company, amend the chosen base currency in the software to reflect the actual base currency you use.

  1. Press OK to close the message.
  2. Create the company again and select any currency except Euro.

    TIP:

    Select a currency you won't use for overseas trading.

  3. Press Create to complete the company setup.
  4. Go to Settings then select Currencies.
  5. Select the currency that shows 'BASE' in the Exchange Rate column.
  6. Press Edit, then amend the following details to reflect the correct base currency:
    • Currency name
    • Currency Code
    • Currency symbol
    • Major currency unit
    • Minor currency unit
  7. Press OK then Close.
