Sage 50 Accounts v26.2 and below - Changes to Sage services with TLS 1.0 and 1.1

Created on  | Last modified on

This guide provides important information about changes to Sage services and Sage 50 Accounts v26.2 and below.

What's changing?

One of our priorities is to ensure your data is always protected in accordance with the latest industry standards. As part of this, we're making some changes that impact Sage 50 Accounts and Sage 50cloud Accounts v26.2 and below

Transport Layer Security (TLS) v1.0 and 1.1 is a security protocol that is widely used to facilitate privacy and data security for communications over the internet and is used in v26.2 and below.

In June 2018, the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) formally discourage the use of TLS 1.0 and 1.1 and highly recommends the use of TLS 1.2 and 1.3.

What this means for you

By 30 September 2022we're aiming to switch off TLS 1.0 and 1.1 for our remaining services, AutoUpdate and Sage License Server following the latest industry standards.

Once we switch off, anyone using Sage 50 Accounts or Sage 50cloud Accounts v26.2 or below will no longer be able to access their software.

Next steps?

To clarify what you need to do next, you must check your current version of Sage 50cloud Accounts and your serial number. These can be found within your software in Help and About.

Common questions

What if I have a read-only licence?

If you still need access to your read-only Sage 50 Accounts, you must install the update. However, if you no longer require access to the software you don't need to upgrade.

If you no longer use Sage 50 Accounts and you don't need access to the software for historical data, you don't need to upgrade.

What if I'm not on a subscription for Sage 50cloud Accounts?

Sage 50 Accounts v26.2 and below is also affected by these changes, unless your software has never been installed on a computer with an Internet connection.

Why does Sage communicate over the internet?

Our products communicate behind the scenes with TLS security protocols over the internet with two sage services:

  • AutoUpdate to check if there are any new versions available
  • Sage Licence Server (SLS) to check your licence
